Answers to questions around how payments process through HoneyBook, handling payments outside HoneyBook, and reminding clients to pay.

What happens if a client pays me before I connect my bank account to HoneyBook?

If your client makes a payment before you’ve connected your bank account to HoneyBook, the funds will securely sit with HoneyBook until you’ve added your bank details and they’re verified. Once this happens, your funds will start making their way to the account you connected.

What should I do if my client pays with cash or a check?

If your client paid you outside of HoneyBook, you’ll want to manually mark the payment as paid.

Can I remind my clients to make their payments?

Yep! You can both set up automatic payment reminders and manually send payment reminders. Manual payment reminders can also be sent via mobile app.

How can I review all my payments in the same place?

Review all your payments in the same place by using your Bookkeeping tool’s Payments page.

How is the taxable amount calculated?

In your downloadable reports, you may see a column for taxable amounts. Here’s how these amounts are calculated:

(full payment amount - payment tax) * taxable percent of total file value

Taxable percent of total file value

invoice total taxable amount / invoice subtotal

📚 Tip

Taxable represents what is checked as a taxed package or item on any given invoice. Non-taxable represents what packages or items are left unchecked—or, not taxed!

Where can I find information on tax documents or IRS reporting?

You can learn more about the tax forms HoneyBook provides here, including whether or not you’ll get one. If you're eligible, here's where you can retrieve your Form 1099:

  1. Select your profile photo > select Company Settings

  2. In the left menu, select Tax Information

  3. Download your Form 1099

Why is my payment processing?

If you see a payment marked as processing in HoneyBook, then your client paid using HoneyBook's bank transfer option. Bank transfers generally take 7-8 business days to process, since the funds need to clear your client's bank account first.
