What payment methods can my clients use in HoneyBook?

Have your clients pay via credit card or bank transfer to gain access to all of the benefits of processing payments through HoneyBook. If you prefer one of these methods over the other, set up your invoices to only accept credit cards or bank transfers.

Your clients can also pay by cash or check, but these can only be manually tracked since they were handled outside of HoneyBook.

Can my client update their saved credit card?

Yes, your client can update or remove the credit card they're using to make their payments.

Can my client tip me through HoneyBook?

For those extra-generous clients who want to add a tip on top of their payment, HoneyBook has just the thing. When sending a smart file with an invoice, you have the option to allow gratuity as part of your payment options.

Can my client pay internationally?

Invoicing a client who’s based internationally? Not to worry—international clients can use any major credit card to make payment, even if the card originates outside of the US or Canada. Your client will be invoiced in your account currency (USD or CAD), and their bank will handle the conversion.

📣 Note

HoneyBook does not charge any extra fees for international clients, but international clients may want to check if extra fees will be assessed by their bank.

Can my client make a partial payment, or does it have to be the entire amount?

At this time, clients cannot make partial payments unless you enabled client selects plan in the invoice.

If your client would like to make a partial payment, you'll need to edit the payment schedule to reflect the amount they would like to pay, then publish the changes to the invoice. Learn more here.

If your client made a partial payment outside of the system, update the payment plan to match what you received, and then mark the payment as paid.

Can I control which payment method my client can use?

Yes, you can opt for your client to only use credit card payments or bank transfers when they’re making a payment.

Can I make a manual payment for my client?

For your client's security, you will not be able to make a manual payment for them.

If your client is having trouble submitting payment, check out this helpful troubleshooting resource.

If you receive payment from a client outside of HoneyBook, you can always mark that payment as paid so your bookkeeping aligns.
