Payment statuses and what they mean

Use HoneyBook payment statuses to keep track of your cash flow and understand where your payments are at.

Updated over a week ago

HoneyBook updates payment statuses in real time so that you have access to the most accurate status of a payment. To understand what is happening at each state, here are additional explanations of each status type.

Upcoming

The payment is due at a later date and the client hasn't paid yet.

Due today

The payment is due today and the client hasn't paid yet.

Processing

The client paid using HoneyBook's bank transfer option and the funds are currently being processed. You can't refund processing payments until they're fully cleared.

Paid

The client has made the payment and the funds are on their way to your bank account. If you haven't linked your bank account, the funds will be securely held until you do. If you processed the payment outside of HoneyBook, you won't see an estimated deposit date.

Overdue

The client hasn't made the payment and the due date has passed. You should consider sending them a payment reminder.

These payments will count appear in the home page's Overdue section, regardless of whether the invoice is booked (aka if payment was made on the invoice already).

Payment failed

The client's payment has failed. They will receive an email notification and will need to try again.

Refund error

A technical issue occurred or you don't have enough funds in your HoneyBook account to grant the refund.

Refund in process

A refund was initiated for the payment and the funds are in the process of posting to the client's original payment method. Your client should see any refund in their account within 3-10 business days for credit card refunds and 7-14 business days for ACH refunds.

Full refund

The payment was refunded to the client's original payment method.

Partial refund

A partial amount of the payment was refunded to the client's original payment method.

Canceled

The payment was canceled and no charge attempt will be made. This only applies to recurring invoices.

Dispute pending

A dispute was initiated by the cardholder for the payment. You will receive important details via email, and HoneyBook's Disputes Resolution Team is available to help.

Dispute won

The bank ruled in your favor for a dispute the cardholder initiated. If this payment was withheld or recovered by the issuing bank, you should receive the full amount back. If you see this status, you should receive important details about the ruling via email.

Dispute lost

The bank ruled in the cardholder's favor for a dispute they initiated. You won't receive any amount of this payment back and will incur a $10 dispute fee. If you see this status, you should receive important details about the ruling via email.

Dispute partially won

The bank ruled partially in your favor for a dispute the cardholder initiated. If this payment was withheld or recovered by the issuing bank, you should receive a partial amount back. If you see this status, you should also receive important details about the ruling via email.

Held for dispute

The payment was applied to an open dispute, but your clients cannot see this status. It's only visible to you for payment tracking purposes and doesn't mean that the payment itself is being disputed. You will receive important details via email, and HoneyBook's Disputes Resolution Team is available to help.

Processed for dispute

The payment was applied to a closed dispute, where the issuing bank ruled in the cardholder's favor. This status is also only visible to you for payment tracking purposes and doesn't indicate that the payment was disputed. You will receive important details via email, and HoneyBook's Disputes Resolution Team is available to help.
