Contract FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions around how contract smart files work and how to sign them in HoneyBook

Updated this week

Why can't I assign a signature?

There are a couple of reasons you might not be able to add or assign a signature in your contract:

  • If you're editing a template, the contract won't be attached to a project, so there isn't anyone to assign the signature to just yet

    • Once the template is pulled into a project, a contract line will automatically appear, which by default will be the first participant in the project

  • If you're using the contract in a project, you might not have any participants added to the project yet

Can I sign my contract before I send it to my client?

Yes, you can sign the contract before sharing the file with your client, as long as the smart field client permissions are set to Can edit or Can't edit. The only time you can't sign the contract before sending is if the permissions are set to Must fill. There's no need to resend the contract once you sign—your client's version of the file will automatically reflect that update.

What should I do if I need to adjust the contract after it's sent?

If you need to adjust the contract after it's sent, like if you need to change dates in the service agreement, you can edit and resend the smart file.
