Set up a contract smart file using the app

Get a contract smart file set up and shared, all from your mobile device.

Updated over a week ago

Contracts are essential for obtaining signatures from clients to finalize agreements. HoneyBook's contracts are legally binding documents that help define the crucial details of your project's services.

Your clients can easily review and sign these files directly through the platform, accessible from any device.

Build a contract smart file

  1. From the menu, select Projects

  2. Find the project you'll create a contract for (or create a new project)

    1. You can use the pipeline stages or the search icon to look for existing projects

  3. Once you're in the project workspace, select Create file

  4. Select a template or recent file to start from

    1. If you want to start from a template, select the Contracts folder to filter for templates with a contract block

    2. If you want to create a brand new smart file, scroll to the bottom of the template list > select Start from blank smart file

  5. Tap the contract block to make any changes to the service agreement

    1. If you want to add a smart field, payment recap, or service recap, tap exactly where in the contract block you want these to go

    2. If there are any red empty fields, it means you have already added these project fields to the contract and set them as non-editable for your clients, so you must fill them out before sharing the file

  6. At the bottom of the contract, select the signature block to change the assignees

    1. If you need to add more signatures, select Add signature

    2. By default, the creator of the project and the first participant of the project will be selected (but you can change these)

  7. Make any other needed changes to the smart file

  8. When you're done, share the smart file by selecting Share at the top of your screen > select how you want to share the smart file

    1. If you decide to email the smart file, fill in the email details > select Send

Once your client signs, you'll be notified via email & within the app itself.

📚 Tip

You'll be able to sign the contract as soon as it's sent. No need to resend the contract once you sign—your client's version of the file will automatically reflect that update.
