Accepted Canadian documents for linking your bank account in HoneyBook

Learn what Canadian documents are accepted when verifying your bank account to receive payments through HoneyBook

When you’re linking your Canadian bank account to HoneyBook, you’ll need to supply documents that confirm the information you provide. Each section below provides the list of documents you can supply. When you upload these documents, there are some requirements you must meet. If the document doesn’t meet these requirements, it’ll get rejected and you’ll need to upload a new image.


Documents to confirm your identity

Uploading your passport or driver’s license could be the simplest options when confirming your identity.

List of accepted documents

  • Passport

  • Driver’s license

    • Photos of both the front and back are required

  • Permanent Resident Card

  • Provincial or territorial issued photo identity cards

    • Photos of both the front and back are required

  • Certificate of Indian Status card

  • Birth certificate

  • Marriage certificate

Required information for documents

  • Full legal name that matches the name in your HoneyBook profile

  • Date of birth (DOB) that matches what’s in your HoneyBook profile

  • Photo of person, except where exclusions apply

Document requirements

Documents can’t be scans or photocopies.

  • The format must be no more than one step removed from the original document:

    • Document copies and scans must be in PDF format and taken directly from the original document. They can’t be processed, converted, or embedded in other files.

    • A picture of a physical document must be the original, unprocessed picture in JPEG or PNG format

    • Screenshots aren’t accepted

  • Documents must be in color

  • Images must not be low-quality

  • Identity and legal entity documents must not be expired

  • Documents must be readable and in a valid upload file format

  • Documents must not be cropped or missing pages with crucial information, and all borders must be visible

  • If the country of residence differs from the country of the account, a passport is required for identity verification


Documents to confirm your address

Uploading your bank statement or utility bill could be the simplest options when confirming your address.

List of accepted documents

  • Driver’s license

    • Scans of both the front and back are required

  • Provincial or territorial issued photo identity cards

    • Scans of both the front and back are required

  • Insurance document

  • Investment account statement

  • Property tax statement

  • Bank statement

  • Utility bill, dated within 12 months

  • Full legal name that matches the name in your HoneyBook profile

  • Personal address that matches the address in your HoneyBook profile

Documents to confirm your company

For this, you’ll want to upload a current and valid municipal, provincial, territorial, or federal government-issued document that contains your business name and address.

List of accepted documents

  • Corporate profile report

  • Notice of Assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency, dated within 12 months

  • Articles of Incorporation

  • Articles of Association

  • Notice of Articles

  • Company Summary

  • Search for an entity on the register (Québec only)

  • Business license

  • Partnership agreement or registration

  • A signed resolution confirming the individuals opening the account on behalf of the organization have the authority to do so (non-profits only)

  • Utility bill, dated within 12 months

Required information for documents

  • Full company legal entity name that matches the legal entity name in your HoneyBook profile

  • Tax ID from the local tax authority that matches what’s in your HoneyBook profile

  • Company address that matches the address in your HoneyBook profile

Document requirements

For this, you’ll want to upload a current and valid municipal, provincial, territorial, or federal government-issued document that contains your business name and address.

  • Notice of Articles

  • Notice of Change of Directors

    • For example, Form 6, Form 4006, or Form 3006

  • Board meeting minutes, dated within 12 months

  • A signed resolution confirming the individuals opening the account on behalf of the organization have the authority to do so (non-profits only)

Required information for documents

  • Full company legal entity name that matches the name in your HoneyBook profile

  • Where applicable, all director, shareholder, and beneficial owner names and positions

Document requirements

  • The format must be no more than one step removed from the original document:

    • Document copies and scans must be in PDF format and taken directly from the original document. They can’t be processed, converted, or embedded in other files.

    • A picture of a physical document must be the original, unprocessed picture in JPEG or PNG format

    • Screenshots aren’t accepted

Troubleshoot unverified directors

If HoneyBook can’t verify a business owner or director, try the following:

  1. Update director details

    1. Select View and edit next to the business owner, then review and correct the information

  2. Upload matching documentation

    1. Select View and edit next to the business owner, then reupload documents that match the information you provided

  3. Check number of directors

    1. Make sure the number of directors listed in HoneyBook matches your documents

    2. Select View and edit next to the business owner, then add or remove directors as needed
