Asking for and sharing pronouns in HoneyBook

How to include pronouns in your HoneyBook contact form, questionnaires, and email signature

Updated over a week ago

Creating an inclusive client experience is about ensuring each interaction a client has with your business is designed to serve all people and respects diversity of identity and ability.

A simple but powerful way to make your client experience in HoneyBook more inclusive is by asking for and providing pronouns. Doing so ensures that no assumptions are made and that your clients feel comfortable interacting with you.

Asking on your contact form

1. From your HoneyBook home page, click the Tools menu.

2. Select Contact Form from the menu.

3. You can choose to work off an existing form, or create a new one by clicking the form icon in the sidebar, then selecting Add Contact Form.

4. In either case, click the plus (+) button to add a block, then click the Questions tab within the block selector.

5. Select the Custom question type and your preferred question format.

  • Inclusivity Tip: We suggest using the short text format so your client can manually enter their pronouns and not be limited to pre-determined options.

6. Enter the text of your question.

  • Inclusivity Tip: Click the gear icon that appears when you hover over a question to toggle whether or not the question is required. We recommend keeping this toggled off so your potential clients are not required to answer this question.

7. If you’d like, enter placeholder text directly below your question, which will appear to your leads in the answer field before they start typing.

Your changes will automatically save to your template! If you’ve already published your contact form, just select Publish Changes. If you haven’t published your form yet, follow the steps here to make sure it’s visible to your potential clients.

Asking on your questionnaires

1. From your HoneyBook home page, click the Tools menu.

2. Select My Templates from the menu.

3. Select any smart template with questions that you’ve already created, or create a new one by clicking Create New > Questionnaire.

5. Click the plus (+) button to add a new question and select the question type from the right-side toolbar.

  • Inclusivity Tip: We suggest using the short text format so your client can manually enter their pronouns and not be limited to pre-determined options.

6. Enter your question by typing into the blank Type your question here field, then add any placeholder text by typing into the blank Type your placeholder here field.

  • HoneyBook Tip: Clicking an existing question displays that question’s settings, so you can also change the question type, mark the question as required, and see whether it is a linked question.

All set! Your changes will automatically save, then you can get started sharing your updated questionnaire with clients.

Providing your pronouns in your email signature

1. From your HoneyBook home page, click the Tools menu.

2. Select My Templates from the menu.

3. Select Email Signature from the list of template options on the left side of the screen.

4. Here, you’ll see the Default Signature that we’ve created for you, or the custom email signature you already created. Click on the template to open the template editor.

5. Type directly into the template editor to add your pronouns (we suggest adding them next to your name so they are easy to find).

All set! Your changes will automatically save.
