Prevent fraud on your HoneyBook Balance Visa® debit card

Protect your HoneyBook Balance Visa® debit card with smart fraud-prevention habits, virtual card use, and weekly transaction reviews

Updated this week

For those that have an active HoneyBook Balance Checking Account, protecting your HoneyBook Balance Visa® debit card helps safeguard your business funds and peace of mind. While HoneyBook uses secure payment processing, online fraud can still occur. By taking proactive steps—like reviewing transactions weekly, using virtual cards, and knowing when to report suspicious activity—you can minimize risk and act quickly if something looks off.

If you ever notice a charge you don’t recognize, go straight to Review charges and report fraud on your HoneyBook Balance Visa® debit card.

Review your transactions weekly

Set aside time each week to review your transactions and ensure everything looks right.

  1. From the navigation menu, select Finance > Balance

  2. Review your “Transactions” table for:

    1. Charges you don’t recognize

    2. Duplicate transactions

    3. Unusual or suspicious vendor names

🔥 Stop

Some merchants may use alternate billing names. If you’re unsure, confirm before assuming fraud. If a charge still looks suspicious, review and report it immediately.

Enable fraud alerts

If your mobile provider or email service offers fraud alerts or transaction notifications, turn them on. These real-time alerts let you respond quickly to suspicious activity—often before a fraudulent transaction can continue.

Use virtual cards for online payments

HoneyBook Balance provides both virtual and physical Visa® debit cards. Your virtual card is best for online and vendor payments because it’s:

  • More secure for digital purchases

  • Easy to cancel or replace instantly if compromised

  • Automatically reissued with a new number

Whenever possible, use your virtual card instead of your physical one for online transactions, subscriptions, or trial services.

Spot suspicious or fraudulent websites

Fraudulent websites may try to mimic trusted brands or payment portals. Watch for signs such as:

  • Misspellings or grammatical errors

  • Unusual URLs, for example, h0neybook-pay.biz

  • Poor design or low-quality images

If a site looks unprofessional or suspicious, don’t enter your card information.

Research new vendors before paying

Before paying a new vendor or supplier:

  • Search their business name online

  • Read reviews on Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau (BBB)

  • Verify a physical address and valid contact information

This is especially important for large payments or first-time collaborations.

Be cautious of pushy vendors

Fraudulent vendors may:

  • Pressure you to make a decision quickly

  • Change contact information frequently

  • Use emotional or guilt-tripping language

If a vendor feels “off,” take time to research before sending payment.

Watch for unusual refund requests

Be wary if a vendor:

  • Offers a refund without reason

  • Asks to refund through Venmo, wire transfer, or another unverified method

Always ensure refunds go to your original payment method.

What to do if you suspect fraud

If you notice unauthorized charges or suspicious activity:

  1. Stop using your card immediately

Reporting potential fraud quickly helps HoneyBook protect your funds and investigate unauthorized activity.
