What custom contact fields are, and how to use them to store client information

Contact fields allow you to store information about contacts. While there are a few locked fields that are already in your account, you can also create custom contact fields as a way to save additional details. For example: if you find yourself wanting to save your clients' birthdays, or pet names—create a custom contact field.

We'll cover how to create, edit, and use custom contact fields below.


Access the contact fields editor

From your Company Settings

  1. From any page, click your profile photo to the top right of your screen > Company Settings

  2. By Contact fields, click Edit

From here, you can add, edit, delete, or rearrange custom contact fields.

From your Contacts page

  1. From the top navigation bar, select Clients > Contacts

  2. Click the Show/Hide Columns icon > Manage columns

From here, you can add, edit, delete, or rearrange custom contact fields.


Add a contact field

  1. In the pop-up that appears, select + Add custom field

  2. Enter the field name and select the field type (e.g. text, date, multi-select)

  3. Click Add

  4. Click Save

The new custom contact field will appear for all of your contacts. Whenever you add a new contact or edit an existing one, you will be able to capture the field's information for that specific person under More details.


Edit or delete a custom contact field

  1. In the pop-up that appears, locate the custom contact field you'd like to edit or delete > click the three-dot icon by it

  2. Select either Edit or Delete

    1. If editing, enter your changes, then click Save > Save

    2. If deleting, click Delete > Delete to confirm

📣 Note

Locked fields cannot be edited or deleted.


Reorder custom contact fields

  1. In the pop-up that appears, hover over the custom contact field you'd like to reorder > click the 6 dot icon > drag and drop

  2. Click Save to save the new order

📣 Note

Locked fields cannot rearranged.

The new order will apply to your contact fields list, as well as the columns shown on your Contacts page.


Suggestion custom contact fields

Once you create a custom contact field, the field will appear whenever you add a new contact or edit an existing one, under More details. The field will also appear in the client workspace, under the Details tab.

With your new contact fields in place, you can now also use these fields in:

Custom fields cannot be used in contact forms.
