Sharing your templates publicly

Support your community and industry by sharing templates and best practices that help build the perfect client experience.

Updated this week

Share your templates with your fellow HoneyBook members as well as non-members through a link you can generate within HoneyBook. Your templates can be made available through a direct link, which you can deactivate at any time.

📣 Note

This article covers how to share your templates with other HoneyBook members and non-members.

If you're looking to share a public file with a potential lead or client, consider using a lead form.

If you're sharing a file through a client project, please note that the file cannot be shared publicly and will be sent only to the project participants.

Share your template

At the moment, templates can be shared via desktop or via your mobile device’s web browser.

  1. From your top navigation bar, select Templates > File Templates

  2. Find the template you want to make public

  3. Select the three dot icon on that template > Share template

    • If you’re editing a template, you can also select the vertical dot icon → select Share template

  4. Select Public sharing → select Generate Link

  5. Toggle whether you want to allow people to save a copy of this template

    • If you toggle this off, people can only view your template if they use your link

  6. Toggle whether you want this to be a referral link

    • Toggling this off means anyone who isn’t a HoneyBook member signs up for HoneyBook through your public template will not earn you money

  7. Copy the link, then place it where you want.

    1. These links can be shared anywhere you normally share links and content–on your personal website, social media channel, within your communities, or with peers and friends!

Note

If your template is saved by a non-member and they sign up for HoneyBook, you can earn up to $200 USD through the existing referral program.

Deactivate your link to stop sharing

If you want to take your template offline, you can deactivate the link. When you do this, anyone who has the link to the template will no longer be able to access it.

  1. From your top navigation bar, select Templates > File Templates

  2. Find the template you want to take offline

  3. Select the three dot icon on that template > Share template

    • If you’re editing a template, you can also select the vertical dot icon > Share template

  4. Select Deactivate Link

Share a template via email

You can also send a template directly to another HoneyBook member by sending via email.

  1. From your top navigation bar, select Templates > File Templates

  2. Find the template you want to make public

  3. Select the triple-dot icon on that template > Share template

    • If you’re editing a template, you can also select the vertical dot icon > Share template

  4. Select Member sharing

  5. Enter the recipient’s email address > select Send

📚 Tip

When sharing this way, you must use the email address of an existing HoneyBook member.

FAQs

What happens if I want to share a template I previously made private?

You can activate and deactivate a template as you please. If you deactivate a template, but later choose to reactivate it again, it will be the same link as before.

Can I make any edits to a template that’s public?

You can make changes to a template, but anyone who saved the previous version will still only have that version. They can update their template by returning to your share link and saving the newest version.

When you make any changes, they’ll be saved automatically in case you need to step away. Those changes won’t appear on the public template until you apply them, however.

How will I know if someone uses my template?

You’ll get a message in your notifications center letting you know someone just used your template.

Can I delete a public template?

You can delete public templates. Anyone who has the share link will see a screen letting them know that the template is unavailable.

Can people not in the U.S. or Canada use my public template?

Today, HoneyBook is designed for independents based in the U.S. and Canada. Because of this, public templates aren’t currently available outside of these two countries.

Can I sell any templates I've created?

Yes! As long as you follow the policies of the marketplaces or platforms you want to use and have the rights to any assets you've included in the template, feel free spread your templates as you see fit.
