Add an unsubscribe link to marketing emails

How to add an unsubscribe link to boost email deliverability, and all about the client-side experience.

Updated over a month ago

Recent updates to email spam filters have emphasized the importance of including an easy unsubscribe option in marketing emails. This is why HoneyBook has an unsubscribe tool that allows you to label messages as marketing and automatically include an unsubscribe link.

Unsubscribe links won't appear when you're drafting the email or within the project's activity feed—they'll only appear in the message your client gets. Unsubscribe links are automatically added to bulk emails, and should stay added as a best practice. If you remove them, spam filters may prevent your bulk email from landing in your clients' inboxes.

Add an unsubscribe link

Emails with an unsubscribe link will have the marketing email icon next to their send date when you're viewing them in the project workspace's activity feed.

  1. Get started composing your message

  2. Select the marketing email icon to add the unsubscribe link

  3. Select Send (or select the drop-down to schedule your email)

Your clients' experience with the unsubscribe link

When a client receives a marketing email from you, they'll see the unsubscribe option in the message.

If they select Unsubscribe, they'll be directed to a new tab where they can select Unsubscribe again to confirm that they don't want to get anymore marketing emails from your business. They'll still receive other messages from you, just not marketing emails.

How to know if a client unsubscribed

If a client has unsubscribed from your marketing emails, you'll see an indicator in a few places. Any marketing emails you send will not be delivered to their inbox, but the emails will show in the corresponding project's activity feed in HoneyBook.

Client's profile picture

If you select the client's profile picture when you're in the project workspace, a message will let you know they're unsubscribed.

Email status in activity feed

If you send a marketing email to a client who has previously unsubscribed, the email status will show as Not delivered for them.

Contacts page tag

Any contacts who have unsubscribed will have an Unsubscribed: Marketing emails tag. You'll filter your contacts list for this tag to view which contacts have unsubscribed.
