Email authentication is critical for keeping your messages out of spam. SPF and DKIM records confirm your identity as a sender, but if they’re missing or incorrect, your HoneyBook emails may not be delivered.
As of February 2024, Google and Yahoo require stricter domain authentication for all business emails. Missing or invalid DNS records can cause your messages to be filtered or blocked.
Running HoneyBook’s domain tester helps you:
Detect missing or invalid SPF or DKIM records
Spot configuration issues like multiple SPF records (only one is allowed)
Get instructions for fixing problems with your domain provider
When to use the HoneyBook domain tester
The tester is available if:
You’ve integrated your email with HoneyBook using a custom domain, for example, @yourbusiness.com
You want to confirm your SPF and DKIM records are set correctly
If you use HoneyBook’s default sender ([email protected]), you don’t need to run this test—HoneyBook manages DNS records for you.
Run the domain test
From the navigation menu, select your company logo > Company settings
Select Integrations
Under “Email,” select Send test email
HoneyBook will send a background test message to check your SPF and DKIM configuration
📣 Note
You won’t see the test email in your inbox. Return to Integrations to view results and error messages.
Common domain tester errors and fixes
If the test shows an error, it means your SPF or DKIM record is missing, misconfigured, or invalid. Use the table below to scan the issue and find a fix:
Error | Cause | Fix |
No SPF record exists in your DNS settings | Add a new SPF TXT record in your domain provider’s DNS console using the value from your email service such as Google or Outlook
Typos or incorrect formatting in your SPF value | Ensure your SPF TXT value matches the exact format provided by your email provider
Problem with SPF setup that isn’t covered above | Contact your domain provider for troubleshooting
DKIM record in your DNS doesn’t match your email provider’s key | Verify your DKIM record matches the details from your provider exactly
DKIM signing isn’t enabled in your email provider’s settings | Log in to your email provider and turn on DKIM signing |
📣 Note
HoneyBook identifies these issues but can’t fix them for you. To resolve errors, log in to your domain provider’s management console, for example, GoDaddy, Squarespace, or Namecheap, and update your TXT records there.
