How to edit and send smart files via the HoneyBook app.

Updated over a month ago

You can send existing smart file templates or drafts from your mobile app, as well as create basic smart files from scratch with text, images, and contracts. You have the flexibility to make changes to contract elements, add or edit text and images, and move or delete information before sending to your clients.

However, when creating a smart file on your mobile app, you can only add text, images, contracts, and invoices. HoneyBooks is working on enhancing this capability. In the meantime, you can still use your mobile app to send smart file templates or drafts created on your desktop that include additional details.

Start building or editing a smart file

  1. From the bottom navigation menu, select Projects

  2. Find and open the project that will hold the smart file you'll create

    1. If one doesn't exist, you can make a new project

  3. At the bottom of your screen, select Create file

  4. From here, decide how you want to start building your smart file:

    1. Select a template to start from

    2. Scroll to the bottom of your template list to start from scratch

    3. Select the Recent tab to select a smart file you've recently sent as a starting point

Edit a smart file

  • Add your first block by selecting the purple pencil icon > select what you want to add

  • Add or edit a contract block: tap the purple plus button and select contract > make any changes you need

  • Add or edit an invoice & pay block: tap the purple plus button and select invoice & pay > make any changes you need

  • Add a new text block or image block: tap the purple plus button, select your layout, then edit your block

  • Add a new element to an existing block: tap a block, then tap one of the small plus buttons to add text or an image

  • Edit image blocks: tap the image to open the block settings (background color or image, background opacity, etc.) for that block

  • Edit text blocks: tap the block once to open the block settings (background color or image, background opacity, etc.) > tap again to edit the text content or formatting

  • Delete blocks: tap a block, then tap the trash can icon

  • Rearrange blocks: tap a block, then tap the move icon to choose its new location

Share a smart file

  1. When you're done building the smart file, select Share

  2. Decide whether you want to share the smart file via email or direct link

    1. Email: Pick the email recipient > enter a subject line > enter the email body (or use an email template) > select Send

    2. Direct link: Select Create & change to "sent" > tap Share link > choose how you want to share the link
