How to add and edit custom project fields

What custom project fields are, and how to use them to store project details

Updated over a week ago

If you need to track a specific detail for multiple projects, create a custom project field. These fields allow you to record and review the specific information you need, and apply it to other elements of HoneyBook, like files and emails.

πŸ“£ Note

Only account owners, super admins, and admins can create and edit custom project details fields. Other team members can edit the field information for a specific project, but they cannot customize the fields themselves.

Create a custom project field

While your account will have a few mandatory default fields (like project name, type, and date), you have the flexibility to add additional fields as needed to collect the necessary information for your business.

  1. From any page, click your profile photo to the top right of your screen > Company Settings

  2. Select Preferences

  3. By Project fields, click Edit

  4. In the pop-up that appears, select + Add custom field

  5. Enter the field name and select the field type

  6. Choose whether or not you'd like the field to be visible to clients

    1. If you keep this box checked, the field name and value will appear to your client under the project's Details tab

    2. If you uncheck this box, the field name and value will not be visible to your client

  7. Click Add

  8. Click Save

Your new custom project field will be created and added to all projects (projects previously created and new projects added moving forward).

Edit or delete a custom project field

  1. From any page, click your profile photo to the top right of your screen > Company Settings

  2. Select Preferences

  3. By Project fields, click Edit

  4. In the pop-up that appears, locate the custom contact field you'd like to edit or delete > click the three-dot icon by it

  5. Select either Edit or Delete

    1. If editing, make your changes, then click Save > Save

    2. If deleting, click Delete > Delete to confirm

πŸ“£ Note

Locked fields cannot be edited or deleted.

Use custom project fields

When you create a new custom project field, it will appear in every project, under the Details tab.

With your new project field in place, you can now also use these fields in smart files, lead forms, and emails. When you add a custom project field in your company settings, we'll automatically add that field to your contract smart fields list as well.
