📚 Tip
You need an Essentials or Premium HoneyBook plan and a Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus QuickBooks plan. HoneyBook is not compatible with QuickBooks self-employed.
One of the most common causes of discrepancies between HoneyBook and QuickBooks involves invoices with discounts.
To accurately reflect discounts applied to invoices from HoneyBook in QuickBooks, you must ensure a specific setting is enabled in QuickBooks.
If this setting is not enabled, your invoices and their payments will be passed to QuickBooks at the full amount, causing an imbalance due to the missing discount. Turning this setting ON ensures discounts are accurately transferred to QuickBooks. You can check if this setting is enabled by following these steps:
Log in to your QuickBooks account.
Click Accounts & Settings.
Select Sales from the sidebar.
Toggle Discounts ON in the Sales Form Content section.
If an invoice has previously synced from HoneyBook to QuickBooks prior to enabling the discount setting in your Quickbooks account, the invoice will need to be manually adjusted to include the discount by opening the invoice, applying the discount as a line item and hitting save on the invoice.
Please note HoneyBook invoices currently apply discounts pre-tax, which may also occasionally result in discrepancies in QuickBooks if a discount is included in a HoneyBook invoice.
If you open the invoice in QuickBooks Online and see that the discount is displayed after the tax, adjust the order by clicking the up/down arrows next to the Discount and Tax areas in QuickBooks.
If you’re using a newer Quickbooks version, and don’t see the arrows, you will need to click on the gear icon on the top right hand side of the invoice, select payment options, and uncheck the “Apply discount after sales tax” box.
