Connect your bank account for HoneyBook payments

Connect your bank account to HoneyBook to get paid faster. Learn how to add bank details, choose your business type, and complete 2-step verification smoothly.

Learn how to connect your checking account to HoneyBook so you can get paid quickly and securely when clients submit payments. This article walks you through:

  • Adding your bank details

  • Selecting the correct business type (individual, sole proprietor, LLC, partnership or corporation)

  • Completing identity and business verification

  • Understanding what information is required to avoid payment delays

It also explains what to expect during the 2-step verification process. Follow these steps to ensure client payments are processed smoothly and deposited directly into your bank account.

📣 Note
You can only add checking accounts on the Bank details page. Savings accounts and other account types aren’t supported.


U.S. bank accounts

Connecting your bank account to HoneyBook is one of the first steps you’ll need to take to get paid. Once the account is connected, funds will get directly transferred to it when you get a payment.

  1. From the navigation menu, select Settings > Company settings

  2. Determine your business type. Be careful to select the correct type when connecting your bank account. If there's a mistake, payments to your account won’t process.

    • Individual: You own and run a business, but don't have an employer identification number (EIN)

      • You use your Social Security number (SSN) when filing your taxes

    • Sole proprietor: You own and run a business and were issued an EIN

      • If you've filled out an SS-4 Form to register your business with the IRS, you have a government-issued EIN

      • If your organization is a registered nonprofit, select this type when you connect your bank account to HoneyBook

    • LLC-Partnership-Corp.: You pay taxes as an Limited Liability Company (LLC) ,and file as a partnership or corporation

      • If you've filled out an SS-4 Form to register your business with the IRS, you have a government-issued EIN

  3. Locate your business type, then follow the steps below to complete the connection

Connect your bank account based on business type

Individual

  1. From Bank details, select Individual as your business type

  2. Enter the required business information:

    1. Business name: Name under which you operate your business

    2. Merchant category code (MCC): A 4-digit code that lets you accept credit cards. HoneyBook doesn't provide this code to you.

    3. Website URL or product description: Provide an active URL to your business or social media profile. If you don't have a URL, provide a detailed description about your business.

    4. Statement descriptor: This shows up on your customers' bank or credit card statements. To update, change your company name in your Company settings.

  3. Enter the required bank information:

    1. Account number (checking accounts only)

    2. Routing number

    3. Bank name: For example, Chase or American Express (Amex). Don't enter the name of your bank account.

  4. Select Save

  5. Enter the required business owner information:

    1. First name and Last name: The business owner's first and last names, not the name of the business

    2. Date of birth

    3. Social security number (SSN)

    4. Home street address, City, State, and Zip code: Must be a valid physical address and not a P.O. box

    5. Email

    6. Phone number

  6. Drag and drop, or upload images of the front and back sides of your identification (ID) documents

    1. Use bright and clear color photos of your government-issued ID, driver's license, or passport in JPG, PNG, or PDF format. Each file has a size limit of 10 MB.

    2. The information in these documents must exactly match the business owner information you just entered

  7. Select Save


Sole Proprietor

Before you get started, you need exactly the information that’s on your SS-4 form:

  • Employer identification number (EIN)

  • Legal business or entity name

    • Your legal business name consists of everything listed above your address on your SS-4 form, and can span several lines

    • In the example below, the legal business name is "ACME LLC THERESA LOPEZ-FITZGERALD SOLE MBR"

    • This information isn't visible to your clients and is only used for verification purposes

  1. From Bank details, select Sole proprietor as your business type

  2. Before you continue, you need exactly the information that’s on your SS-4 form. Then, select Next.

  3. Enter the required business information:

    1. Legal business name: This is the legal name given to your business, as it appears on your SS-4 form issued by the IRS

      1. Your legal business name consists of everything listed above your address on your form and can span several lines

    2. Employer identification number (EIN): 9-digit identification number assigned to your business by the IRS

    3. Merchant category code (MCC): A 4-digit code that lets you accept credit cards. HoneyBook doesn't provide this code to you.

    4. Website URL or product description: Provide an active URL to your business or social media profile. If you don't have a URL, provide a detailed description about your business.

    1. Account number (checking accounts only)

    2. Routing number

    3. Bank name: For example, Chase or American Express (Amex). Don't enter the name of your bank account.

  5. Select Save

  6. Enter the required business owner information:

    1. First name and Last name: The business owner's first and last names, not the name of the business

    2. Date of birth

    3. Social security number (SSN)

    4. Home street address, City, State, and Zip code: Must be a valid physical address and not a P.O. box

    5. Email

    6. Phone number

    7. Job title

    8. % of ownership

  7. Drag and drop, or upload images of the front and back sides of your identification (ID) documents

    1. Use bright and clear color photos of your government-issued ID, driver's license, or passport in JPG, PNG, or PDF format. Each file has a size limit of 10 MB.

    2. The information in these documents must exactly match the business owner information you just entered

  8. Select Save

  9. If you need to add another business owner, select + Add owner info. Then, follow the prompts for the steps you just did.


Canadian bank accounts

Connecting your bank account to HoneyBook is one of the first steps you’ll need to take to get paid. Once the account is connected, funds will get directly transferred to it when you get a payment.

Begin connecting your Canadian bank account

  1. From the navigation menu, select Settings > Company settings

  2. Select the Bank details tab

  3. Determine your business type

    1. Individual: You own and run a business, but do not have an BN (Business Number)

    2. Sole proprietor: You own and run a business and were issued a BN (Business Number) from the Canada Revenue Agency

    3. Partnership: You pay taxes as a partnership

    4. Corporation: You pay taxes as a corporation

  4. Locate your business type below and follow the remaining steps to complete the connection

Finish connecting your account for each business type

Open the section that matches your business type.

If you're updating your bank details or adding missing details, you won't need to select your business type. When you're on the Bank details tab, select View and Edit instead to make your updates.

Individual

  1. From your Bank details tab, select Individual as your business type

  2. Enter the requested business info

    1. Business name: The name of your business

    2. Merchant category code: The four-digit code assigned to you when you applied to accept credit cards

      1. HoneyBook does not provide this code for you

      2. Learn more about merchant category codes

    3. Website URL: An active business URL or social media profile for your business

      1. Minimum of 10 characters

    4. Product description: A detailed product description of what your business offers and how you collect payment for your services

    5. Business description: A detailed description of what your business is

    6. Statement descriptor: How charges from your business will appear on your customers’ bank or credit card statements

      1. If you need to change this, change your company name in your Company settings

  3. Enter the requested bank info

    1. Your routing and transit numbers are the same

    2. This includes the name of your bank (e.g., Chase, American Express)

      1. Do not enter the name of your specific bank account

  4. Select Save Bank Account

  5. Enter the requested info about you, the business owner

  6. Select Save Owner


Sole Proprietorship

  1. From your Bank details tab, select Sole proprietor as your business type

  2. Enter the requested business info

    1. Business name: The name of your business

    2. Merchant category code: The four-digit code assigned to you when you applied to accept credit cards

      1. HoneyBook does not provide this code for you

      2. Learn more about merchant category codes

    3. Website URL: An active business URL or social media profile for your business

      1. Minimum of 10 characters

    4. Product description: A detailed product description of what your business offers and how you collect payment for your services

    5. Business description: A detailed description of what your business is

    6. Statement descriptor: How charges from your business will appear on your customers’ bank or credit card statements

      1. If you need to change this, change your company name in your Company settings

  3. Enter the requested bank info

    1. This includes the name of your bank (e.g., Chase, American Express)

      1. Do not enter the name of your specific bank account

  4. Select Save Bank Account

  5. Enter the requested info about you, the business owner

  6. Select Save Owner


Partnership

Before you begin

You’ll need to supply info that exactly matches what’s on the company identification document you’ll upload. For example, this means your legal business name must exactly match how it’s written on that document (including case sensitivity and spacing). This information is not visible to your clients and is used for verification purposes only.

  1. From your Bank details tab, select Partnership as your business type

  2. Enter the requested business info

    1. Legal business name: The name of your business (exactly as it appears on your company identification document)

    2. Business street address: The location of your business (exactly as it appears on your company identification document)

    3. Business phone number: A phone number anyone can call to reach your business

    4. Support phone number: The number your clients can call regarding any support questions

    5. Business Number: The number you received when you were approved for a partnership

      1. You can also supply a Corporation Number or Québec Enterprise Number (NEQ)

    6. Website URL: An active business URL or social media profile for your business

      1. Minimum of 10 characters

    7. Product description: A detailed product description of what your business offers and how you collect payment for your services

    8. Business description: A detailed description of what your business is

    9. Statement descriptor: How charges from your business will appear on your customers’ bank or credit card statements

  3. Enter the requested bank info

    1. This includes the name of your bank (e.g., Chase, American Express)

      1. Do not enter the name of your specific bank account

  4. Select Save Bank Account

  5. Enter the requested info about you, the business owner

  6. Select Save Owner


Corporation

Before you begin

You’ll need to supply info that exactly matches what’s on the company identification document you’ll upload.     4. Support phone number: The number your clients can call regarding any support questions

    5. Business Number: The number you received when you were approved for a partnership

    6. Website URL: An active business URL or social media profile for your business

      1. Minimum of 10 characters

    7. Product description: A detailed product description of what your business offers and how you collect payment for your services

  3. Enter the requested bank info

    1. This includes the name of your bank (e.g., Chase, American Express)

      1. Do not enter the name of your specific bank account

  4. Select Save Bank Account

  5. Enter the requested info about you, the business owner

  6. Select Save Owner

  7. Select whether you have a business director

    1. If you have a business director, enter their name and email

    2. If you have more than one business director, you'll add the rest from the Bank details tab by selecting + Add Director Info under the first director

    3. New Canadian regulations require this—learn more about the 2024 updated Canadian verification requirements

  8. Select Save Director

From here, your bank details are saved and will begin verification (which typically takes a few minutes).


Verifying your bank details

After you’ve added your bank and business owner information, your details will begin a verification process. The verification process typically takes just a few minutes. If there are any errors or additional information is needed, you'll receive an email notification.

Once your details have been verified, client payments will be transferred directly to your bank account. If you received payments before connecting your bank account, the funds should start processing automatically.
