Clearly communicate with clients in your smart files

Set your clients up for success when working with you by following these guidelines.

Updated over a week ago

When communicating with clients, here's some recommended best practices to help make sure clients are set up for success working with you. Setting expectations means clients are prepared for what working with you will be like.

  • Include one call to action per smart file page

    • If your page contains multiple steps or actions, consider splitting them into two

    • Alternatively, if you have multiple pages with the same actions (ie. service selection), consider consolidating those onto one page

  • Over communicate

    • It’s better to include instructions that 80% of clients don’t need, if that helps the 20% of clients that do need them

  • Include titles for buttons that either indicate to your clients they’ve completed the current page or specify what’s to come on the next page

  • Consider including a conclusion

    • A "Thank you" page at the end of each smart file can let clients know when you’ll be in touch and what happens next
