How to use your Finance Overview

Stay up-to-speed with your available balance, payments, and card spending all from one place.

Updated this week

Understanding your finances will always be a major key to your business’s success. Keeping tabs on your project payments, spending, and your different bank accounts and credit cards can all be done from the Finance Overview page.

This page also holds snapshots of your finances, as well as how they trend over time. Get a good look at your money in, money out, and available balance changes over time, letting you compare where your finances are at to where they were. For example, seeing that more payments are coming in can empower you to spend more on lead generation.

📣 Note

The Finance Overview page is only intended to inform you of your finances and is not financial advice. Consider consulting with your financial advisor before making any decisions with your business’s finances.

Getting to the Finance Overview page

While your Finance Overview page should be your starting point to review your finances, it isn’t where you first land when logging into your account. Here’s how to get there:

  1. From the top navigation bar, select Finance > select Payments

  2. Select the Overview tab

The sections below will give you more detail on the different parts of your Finance Overview page.

HoneyBook payments graph

The payments graph includes all your payments that are processed in HoneyBook, broken down by whether they’re paid, overdue, or upcoming. This will include payments from archived projects, and will automatically shift overdue and upcoming payments to paid as your clients make their payments.

📚 Tip

All non-upcoming payments, regardless of whether they come from booked files (files with a signed contract or an invoice with at least one completed payment) will appear here. If a file has an overdue payment but isn’t from a booked file, that payment can also appear here.

Hover over a month’s bar to see a breakdown of payments for that month.

Use the filter to pick a different time frame to view.

Select Payments to get sent to the Payments page. From that page, get more info on your paid and outstanding payments (like what project they’re for, their due dates, and their amounts).

Financial tracker

Find your net worth, the sum of all of your linked bank accounts, and the sum of all of your card spending over the selected time period. You can see the bank account holdings and card spending amounts broken down by account type (e.g., checking, savings, credit card).

Securely link your external bank accounts and credit cards to HoneyBook to get full visibility into your business finances from one place. When you link your accounts and cards, HoneyBook can sum up your balances and expenditures to inform you of your financial situation.

This section is where you can:

  • Link your external accounts and cards to HoneyBook through Plaid, a third-party that uses end-to-end data encryption to ensure that your info remains secure

  • View the balances of your external accounts and cards all in one place

  • Give your linked bank accounts and cards nicknames to more easily tell them apart
