How to use your Finance Overview page

Stay up-to-speed with your available balance, payments, and card spending all from one place.

Updated over a week ago

Understanding your finances will always be a major key to your business’s success. Keeping tabs on your project payments, spending, and your different bank accounts and credit cards can all be done from the Finance Overview page.

This page also holds snapshots of your finances, as well as how they trend over time. Get a good look at your money in, money out, and available balance changes over time, letting you compare where your finances are at to where they were. For example, seeing that more payments are coming in can empower you to spend more on lead generation.

📣 Note

The Finance Overview page is only intended to inform you of your finances and is not financial advice. Consider consulting with your financial advisor before making any decisions with your business’s finances.

Getting to the Finance Overview page

While your Finance Overview page should be your starting point to review your finances, it isn’t where you first land when logging into your account. Here’s how to get there:

  1. From the top navigation bar, select Finance > select Overview.

The sections below will give you more detail on the different parts of your Finance Overview page.

Available balance sum

Your available balance overview will give you the sum of the balances of all your linked accounts (which is covered in the External funds section below). This number can be used to see how money you have in all your banks instead of calculating that yourself.

Note

To get the most accurate balance amount, link your external accounts and cards. When you add external accounts, HoneyBook can let you know how much you’re spending and how much you’re making from payments. Learn how to link your external banks and cards.

Select Details to get a month-to-date graph of how this balance has changed. You can also see year-to-date by changing the graph’s filter.

If you’ve linked any external accounts, select Show accounts to see the balances of those specific accounts. Hover over the graph to see the balances of those accounts on that day.

HoneyBook payments sum

Your payments snapshot (not the graph) is where you can get a sum of your received and anticipated payments from your HoneyBook projects. This number can be used to see your HoneyBook income for the month so far (as well as how well that income is doing compared to last month).

Select Details to get sent to the Payments page. From that page, get more info on your paid and outstanding payments (like what project they’re for, their due dates, and their amounts).

Card spending sum

Your card spending overview is where you can get a sum of your spending on your linked cards. This does not include any spending from your linked bank accounts—just the linked cards. This number can be used to understand how much you’ve spent since the start of the month and get a comparison to last month’s spending to date.

Select Details to get a month-to-date graph of how this number has changed. You can also see year-to-date by changing the graph’s filter.

You can also select Show cards to see spending for each linked card. Hover over the graph to see the spending for each card on that day.

HoneyBook payments graph

The payments graph includes all your payments that are processed in HoneyBook, broken down by whether they’re paid, overdue, or upcoming. This will include payments from archived projects, and will automatically shift overdue and upcoming payments to paid as your clients make their payments.

📚 Tip

Only payments from booked files (files with a signed contract or an invoice with at least one completed payment) will appear here. If a file has an upcoming or overdue payment but isn’t from a booked file, those payments will not appear.

Hover over a month’s bar to see a breakdown of payments for that month.

Use the filter to pick a different time frame to view.

Select Payments to get sent to the Payments page. From that page, get more info on your paid and outstanding payments (like what project they’re for, their due dates, and their amounts).
