Fix a failed domain connection in HoneyBook

Learn why your domain connection may fail when linking to HoneyBook and how to fix common setup or subdomain errors

Updated today

If your domain connection fails when linking your website or subdomain to HoneyBook, don’t worry—it’s usually a quick fix. Most connection errors are caused by small setup issues, like typos or incomplete login steps with your hosting provider.

This guide walks you through what causes a failed domain connection, how to resolve it, and when to contact our Support team for help.

Before you start

You’ll know your domain connection has failed if:

  • You see an error message in Client portal & domain

  • You receive an email notification about a failed connection attempt

📚 Tip

If you used the easy-connect feature, the failure may be linked to a login or verification issue with your domain host.

Step 1: Check for typos

Typos are the most common cause of failed domain connections.

  1. Review your subdomain spelling in Client portal & domain

  2. Compare it to the CNAME Record on your web host like GoDaddy, Google Domains, or Squarespace

  3. Make sure both entries match exactly—without extra spaces or characters

Step 2: Check if the domain or subdomain is already taken

Each subdomain and domain combination must be unique.

  1. If the combination you entered is already in use, choose a different one, for example, change studio.yourdomain.com to clientportal.yourdomain.com

  2. Try again in HoneyBook using the updated version

Step 3: Reconnect using the easy-connect option (if applicable)

If you used HoneyBook’s easy-connect feature, your subdomain may have failed because the login to your domain host didn’t complete successfully.

  1. In HoneyBook from the navigation menu, select your company logo > Company settings

  2. Select Try again

  3. Log in to your domain provider when prompted

  4. Follow the onscreen steps to complete setup

  5. Once connected successfully, you’ll see a confirmation in HoneyBook and your domain will begin verifying automatically

Step 4: Contact our Support team if you can’t resolve the error

At this time, you can’t undo or change your subdomain once registered. If your setup still fails or if you need to remove a registered subdomain:

  1. Select the Question Mark icon on any HoneyBook page

  2. Select Message us > Send us a message

  3. To connect with a person, enter “Talk to a person”

  4. Include the following details:

    1. Your registered subdomain name

    2. A short description of the issue

    3. Your domain host name, for example, GoDaddy, Google Domains, or Squarespace

Our Support team can help remove or reconfigure your domain connection if it can’t be resolved manually.
