Learn what documents you might need to submit, how to troubleshoot rejected documents, and about how your data is secured

You may be asked to submit additional documentation to complete the application process. If so, you'll be notified by email, as well as on your dashboard. Collecting this additional information is required to open a business financial account.

Uploading these documents should be very fast, and providing them is required to open a business financial account.

HoneyBook uses top-notch tools and standard practices to keep your data safe and secure. For example, HoneyBook doesn't store any personal information that can identify you, and your personal information is only used to confirm your identity. How HoneyBook protects your data

  • HoneyBook leverages leading tools from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to manage security and access controls, in line with industry best practices. All of HoneyBook’s servers are within a virtual private cloud (VPC) with network access control lists (ACLs) that prevent unauthorized requests from getting to the internal network.

  • HoneyBook uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES 256) to encrypt data at rest and Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt data in transit. This ensures that all traffic between you/your clients and HoneyBook is secure during transit and at rest.

  • HoneyBook uses third-party security tools to continuously scan for vulnerabilities. An internal dedicated security team responds to issues raised.

  • Twice yearly HoneyBook engages third-party security experts to perform detailed penetration tests on the HoneyBook application and infrastructure.

  • HoneyBook accepts external vulnerability reports that are submitted by security researchers through the [email protected] email address.

  • HoneyBook’s payment system integrates with Stripe, allowing both private individuals and businesses to accept payments over the Internet. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. Details about their security setup and PCI compliance can be found on Stripe’s security page.

  • When using HoneyBook's payment system, all sensitive data is transferred directly to Stripe servers over a secured and encrypted channel, fully complying with US regulations. HoneyBook does not store bank accounts or credit card info.

The images of these documents must be 20 MB or smaller, and they can be PNG, JPEG, or PDF file formats.

Created by your and your co-owners. If you’re a sole proprietor or solo owner, you don’t need to upload this document.

Articles of Organization (if your business is an LLC)

Created by your business when filing to be an LLC. If your business isn’t an LLC, you don’t need to upload this document.

Business verification

Another document that has your business’s name and is relevant to the product or service you provide (e.g., an invoice to a customer).

Depending on what you pick, you’ll likely supply this from your business paperwork.


Troubleshoot document error messages

If you get an email saying there was an issue with a document you uploaded, refer to the list below to learn how to fix the issue, then return to your HoneyBook Balance dashboard to reupload the corrected document.

The image provided was unable to be verified due to a poor image quality. Please resubmit the image and be sure all personal information is legible.

Take a clear picture of the document and upload that picture. Do not scan your document when uploading it.

The name on your ID does not match the name on the application. Please resubmit your ID and be sure all personal information is legible.

Check that the name you entered on your application matches the name on your document. If needed, update your application to match your document, then reupload your document image.

The address on the document provided does not match the address on the application. Please resubmit an address verification document with the same address provided on the application.

Check that the address you entered on your application matches the address on your document. If needed, update your application to match your document, then reupload your document image.

The SSN on the Social Security Card provided does not match the SSN on the application. Please confirm the SSN has been entered into the application properly or resubmit a copy of your Social Security Card ensuring the number is legible.

Check that the social security number you entered on your application matches the number on your uploaded document. If needed, update your application to match your document, then reupload your document image.

The Date of Birth on the uploaded ID does not match the Date of Birth on the application. Please verify the information on the application is correct or resubmit a document verifying your Date of Birth.

Check that the date of birth you entered on your application matches the date of birth on your document. If needed, update your application to match your document, then reupload your document image.

The ID you provided is expired. Please provide a current ID for verification such as Driver’s License, Passport or State ID.

Upload an unexpired ID document.

The EIN on the document you provided does not match the EIN on the application. Please make sure the information provided on the application is correct and submit documentation verifying the EIN.

Check that the employer identification number (EIN) you entered on your application matches the EIN on your document. If needed, update your application to match your document, then reupload your document image.

The state of incorporation does not match the state of incorporation provided on the application. Please make sure the information provided on the application is correct and submit documentation from the state in which the business is incorporated.
