The client portal is the client-facing version of a project. It provides a centralized location where your clients can access shared files, messages, and project details. When sending files or emails through HoneyBook, you have the option to include a link to the portal, allowing your client to easily view and interact with the content.
What your client can see and do in the client portal
Once your client accesses the portal, they can:
View the Activity tab to see when files were sent, read email threads, and send you messages
Open the Files tab to review shared documents, attachments, and bookmarks
Access the Payments tab to view invoice files
Access the Notes tab where they can see notes you’ve shared with them (they can view but not edit these)
See project details you've chosen to share (they can view but not edit these)
Clients can see all fields above the "Not visible to clients" section
The “Not visible to clients” section is only visible to you and your internal team members who have access to the project. This is where you can store internal notes and information that should remain confidential
Use the Attach button to add their own images or files (participants can view them, but won’t get notifications)
Switch between projects (if they’ve been added to more than one), using the All Projects button
What your client can't do in the client portal
Clients won’t have access to:
Your internal tools like tasks, automations, or notes you haven’t shared with the client (in the "Only visible to you" sidebar)
Banners for conflicting projects
Other projects they’re not added to, your pipeline, or account details
Creating new HoneyBook files
Scheduling meetings through the portal
Experience your client's POV
If you want to see exactly what your clients will see when they log in, you can test it for yourself. The client portal preview uses mock data instead of real data from your project.
To preview:
From your navigation menu, click Projects
Click into a project
Find the Client portal box on the right-hand side
Click View & edit
From here, you can view and edit the login page and client portal as you wish
📣 Note
Any edits made in the client portal preview will update all client portal experiences, not just for the project you're working in.
