Whether you want to showcase your work or use images as backgrounds to make your smart files stand out, here's how to add images to smart files.
Add an image to an existing block
While building a smart file, select the block you want to add text to
Select the small plus icon > select Image
Customize the text > continue building the smart file

While building a smart file, select the page you want to add text to
Select the large plus icon > select Image
Decide if you want to reuse an image from a template
Updating the block after you reuse it won't update the original template
Choose the image layout from the settings sidebar
If you want to change the block layout after editing it, delete the block and add a new one
Customize the image > continue building the smart file
Customize an image
Replace, crop, and adjust the look of the image by selecting it (not just the block it's on)
Update the design of the block by selecting it > making your changes in the settings sidebar
This can include background colors and images
Add background images
Images can also be used as the background for another block or for the entire page.
Add a background image to a block
While building a smart file, select the block you want to add a background image to
Next to Background Image in the settings sidebar, select Choose
Select an image from your Library or upload something new
Optionally, replace, crop, or set the opacity for the background image
📚 Tip
If you want to add a full-length image without any content over it, add a divider block and repeat the steps above.
Add a background image to a page
While building a smart file, select the page you want to add a background image to from the sidebar
You might need to click out of a block to have to page list appear
In the page list, select the gear icon next to the page you selected
Next to Background Image in the settings sidebar, select Choose
Select an image from your Library or upload something new
Optionally, replace, crop, or set the opacity for the background image
✅ Note
Make sure your file's content is readable over the image you added. Consider lowering the image's opacity, using a page background color, or set background colors for specific blocks.
Add a header image
While building a smart file, add an image block as the first block on the page
Select the gear icon in the image block you just added
Set the content width to 100%
Set the padding to Custom > set the custom padding to 0
