Add text to your smart files in HoneyBook

Personalize your HoneyBook smart files with custom text, and use smart fields to automatically pull in client, project, and business details — including multiple project dates — without manual updates

To personalize your HoneyBook smart file, add text that resonates with you. This can include eye-catching headlines, an about me section, or client testimonials.

You can also add smart fields directly into your text — linking to client, project, or business information so it fills in automatically, without you having to manually update the file for every client.

Add a text block on the web

  1. While building a smart file, select the page you want to add text to

  2. Select Plus icon Add a block (plus icon) > Text

  3. Select Reuse a content block from a template, or choose a text layout from the sidebar

    • Updating the block after you reuse it won't update the original template

    • If you want to change the block layout after typing into it, select Trash icon Delete (trash icon) to delete the block and add a new one

  1. While building a smart file, hover over the block you want to add a question to

  2. Select Plus icon Add an element (plus icon) > Text

Customize text

  • Change the look of the text by highlighting it, then using the text editor

  • If you're working with a text block, the sidebar is also where you can change the block's look

  • Upload a custom font

  1. While building a smart file, select the text block you want to add a smart field to, or create a new one

  2. Select exactly where you want to add the smart field

  3. Enter {, then

    • Select a suggested smart field, or

    • Select the Insert a smart field dropdown in the sidebar > which smart field you want to add, or

    • Use the suggestions in the sidebar

If a project has more than one date, each date gets its own numbered set of fields — Project date 1, Project date 2, and so on — with a title, start date, end date, start time, end time, and location for each. For example, on a project with an engagement session and wedding day, entering { shows separate fields like Project date 1 title, Project date 1 start date, Project date 2 title, Project date 2 start date, and so on. Select whichever date and attribute you need.

Once added, the smart field is inserted into the text block:

  • If you're working in a project and there's an associated value for the field, it auto-populates with the corresponding information

  • If you're working on a template, or in a project without an associated value yet, the field type shows with brackets around it (for example, {Project date 2 title}) as a placeholder

A client's experience with smart fields in text blocks

When you share a file with smart fields in a text block, clients see any associated information for smart fields with a value, and a blank space for smart fields without one. Smart fields in text blocks are displayed as plain text, according to the chosen settings.
