How to send smart files that replicate the legacy invoice file experience

Updated over a week ago

The smart files builder includes enhanced invoice features, with legacy invoice file templates already updated. You can still access your original legacy invoice templates if preferred, but can also create new invoices with the added enhancements of smart files, such as including services and prices, customizing payment schedules, and enabling online payments.

Locate and send an invoice smart file

If you're looking to send an invoice that HoneyBook already updated for you, you'll start in your My Templates page.

  1. From the top nav menu, select Tools > select My Templates

    1. You can find your original templates in the Legacy Files tab of your templates page

  2. Select the Invoice filter

  3. Open the template you want to send

From here, you can update the invoice or other parts of the smart file. Learn how to share a smart file.

Legacy invoice files vs smart files

When creating an invoice using smart files, you have the same options as with legacy files. This includes the ability to easily create simple, beautiful invoices or use one of the pre-updated templates.

  • Add a header image

  • Display packages and items included in the invoice

  • Customize the images, descriptions, and prices of those packages or items

  • Create a payment schedule (or use a payment schedule template you've saved)

  • Customize how clients can pay (credit card/bank transfer, autopay, optional gratuity, etc.)

What's new with smart files

Instead of only working with individual documents and emails, you can create a file that combines different elements of your process. For instance, you can incorporate service selection and dynamic invoicing. Additionally, you have the option to customize the appearance of the file with branding and add more content.

You can still send a file that focuses on one action, such as an invoice for the client to review and submit payment, just like you did with your old invoice files.
