How to recreate a step that happens X days before a project date

All about building this logic in the new automations builder.

Updated over a month ago

The new automations builder comes with a new framework for building your automated steps. If you have a step that always occurs X days before a project date, here's how to set that up in the new builder.

You likely created a lengthy automation, which included a step that happened X days before the project date.

You’ll want to create a new automation with the “Project date” trigger. Since this (X days before the project date) is criteria that causes a specific action to occur, it needs to be built as a unique automation.

You can still set this up so that the automation runs only for specific project types (by using the project types filter under the automation trigger).

  1. From your top navigation bar, click Automations

  2. Select Create Automation

  3. Click into the title field to the top left of your screen to rename the automation template

  4. Click Set a trigger in the sidebar

  5. From the sidebar, select Project date

    1. Set the when: X minutes, hours days, weeks, or month before or after the project date

    2. Select the project type(s) for which the trigger will apply, or all

  6. Continue building out your automation with the action that occurs when the trigger is met

Here’s what this looks like in the new automations builder:
